Our methods for sharpening a knife

Sharpening your blade is necessary when you use a knife regularly. Whether it is for eating, cooking, fishing, hunting or as an adventurer.

But what is sharpening? What should I sharpen with? How to sharpen?

There are 2 methods of sharpening, you have to know if the knife still cuts or if it doesn't cut anymore.

If it cuts we use: A rifle

The rifle allows to maintain the thread so it is used when the knife still cuts. The method is as follows: you need to take a quality rifle that is magnetized, making about 25 cm of wick. You must place the knife on top of the wick forming an angle of 30°, then while pressing well on the blade, go down your knife along the wick while continuing to maintain 30° of angle without scratching it.

This operation takes only a few minutes, we advise you to start with an old knife to find the right gesture.

Please note that sharpening with fast movements does not bring anything to the quality of the sharpening and you risk scratching your blade.

If it does not cut anymore: A stone

You should use a medium-grained natural stone for your knife. Before each use, you must soak the stone in cold water for 10 minutes. Then, you must perform exactly the same movement as before as if you wanted to cut a thin layer of the stone without scratching the blade by alternating one side of the blade then the other.

Repeat the movement.

Good luck to our apprentice sharpeners, it's up to you!
