THE MAINTENANCE OF YOUR ARBALETE G.DAVID KNIFE.

MAINTENANCE OF THE HANDLE

Horn, deer antler handles

These are natural materials. The handle DOES NOT GET WET, otherwise it may eventually swell and split.

The horn is made up of keratin, like feathers, nails. It is for this reason that there is a wide variety of colors and this beautiful material requires minimal maintenance.

For horn handles (pressed), be sure to perform a delicate manual wash.

- The handle: Only if it is dirty. With a barely damp cloth clean the soiled part. A G. David Crossbow knife with a horn handle (whatever the horn) must not be soaked in water or passed under the tap.

French wood and exotic wood handles

The wooden handles are more resistant to humidity. However, we advise you to avoid getting it wet.

- The handle: Use a damp cloth to clean the handle of your knife, then dry the handle directly.

The woods: if the wood becomes dry or / and tarnished, use a soft cloth of olive oil on the handle to "eat" the wood and give it a brighter patina.

Aluminum, stainless steel and acrylic handles

Aluminum, stainless steel and acrylic handles resist getting wet.

You can therefore clean the handle of your knife with a wet sponge, IDEM for the blade.

In all cases, they must be wiped off after use.

BLADE MAINTENANCE

Sandvik stainless steel blade reference 12C27

A high-end stainless steel that is easily sharpened, both by individuals and professionals.

After each use, wash it with a damp sponge or cloth and wipe it dry.

Lame carbone

It is the traditional blade which becomes gray with use. It is a natural oxidation which can go as far as rusting in the event of poor maintenance.

It should be cleaned with a damp sponge or damp cloth and wiped dry immediately.

Damascus Blades

Our stainless steel damascus knives do not require in-depth maintenance.

After each use, wash the blade with a damp sponge or cloth and wipe it dry. We recommend that you keep some edible grease on the blade when you are not using your knife.

SHARPENING THE KNIFE

There are 2 ways to maintain the sharpness of your blade

Redo the line by sharpening with a stone because its grain is abrasive

- Maintain the edge of the blade by sharpening with a gun, which is a precision file, in order to sharpen, without "eating the blade" prematurely.

Redo the line

The sharpening is carried out on a water stone or an electric grinding wheel (to be well round).

Before using the water stone, remember to soak it for ten minutes in cold water.

Make a movement as if you want to cut a thin slice of stone while keeping the same 30 ° angle from the heel of the blade to the tip. Alternate one side of the blade with the other. Repeat this gesture.

Do not hesitate to moisten the stone again during sharpening.

Line Maintenance

Maintain the line, is carried out on a quality rifle, magnetized, of good length (25 cm of wick) and including a guard.

Whether it is round, oval or flat, you must act in the same way: starting from the top of the bit of the rifle and the heel of the blade, make the movement of cutting the rifle down towards the guard.

MAINTENANCE OF THE KNIFE MECHANISM AND BOLSTERS

The mechanism

We advise you to use a drop of oil (car oil for example) on the notch of your knife when it is closed, between the blade and the spring on the new axis of the blade.

Open and close the blade and wipe off the excess. The same goes for the 2 and 3 parts by putting a drop of oil on the notches to ensure the proper functioning of the mechanisms.

Solid brass bolsters

To restore a shiny appearance to slightly patinated or oxidized brass bolsters, use Ouator or Mirror on a cloth with elbow grease.

Solid stainless steel bolsters

The knives fitted with stainless steel bolsters do not require any maintenance.

MAINTENANCE OF THE ART OF THE TABLE

Cutlery Arbalète G.David

The entire Arbalète G. David cutlery is made up of stainless steel blades and cutlery tops.

We recommend that you clean your table knives by hand in order to maintain their sharpness over the long term.

After each use wash it with a damp sponge or cloth and wipe it dry.

Cleaning in a dishwasher, you must take precautions

- avoid excessive doses of detergents

- do not put ordinary steel items in your dishwasher

- make sure there is sufficient rinse aid.

Only products marked "machine washable 50 °" can be put in the dishwasher.

Take a good look at your Guarantee Certificate to see if your handle is suitable for the dishwasher.

High-end acrylic handles

We recommend you to wash these models by hand. They can be soaked in hot or cold water without any risk.

You may end up with oxidation stains on your table knife blades or handles after one or more passes in the dishwasher.
